There have been a few additional comments to the cartoon I posted earlier this morning. I re-watched the cartoon, and I agree with the comments – that it contained really inappropriate sexual behavior by one of the characters (the mother). So I’ve deleted it. I’ve found another, shorter clip, that includes only the part where the students are watching and reacting to the abstinence-only presentation.
I apologize for the offensive nature of the original.
My response to the original clip is mixed: Besides the inappropriate, aggressive behavior of the mother, I think it also showed the potentially negative consequences if we try to talk our kids into anything: Mom encourages daughter to go all the way, boyfriend dumps daughter, daughter blames mom! Kids really should simply be given information, and then be left alone to make their own decisions.
However, I am, like you, outraged at the increased funding for abstinence-only sex ed. It looks like a companion bill has been put on the Senate calendar (SB 1710): please call or write your senators right now and tell them that you want the increased funding for abstinence-only education REMOVED from the bill!
From what I can see of the preview, it appears to be from Family Guy, which is nothing if not un-PC and controversial. One knows when one’s viewing it that there’s a good possibility that they might be offended at something in the show… and there’s a good possibility that they might end up laughing anyway.
