Oh I certainly didn't mean to suggest that my classes do not have an impact on the young students - they certainly do! But I am saying that I never feel like I have enough time with them, and that parents have a much bigger influence over the substantially more time they have.

Great observations. I’d like to encourage you to believe that 32 hours, over 16 weeks, can make a difference. I also struggle with the desire to be very helpful for my clients, most of whom I see a maximum of 1 hour a week. I do believe it makes a difference. Each positive, nurturing, thought-provoking contact adds to other positive, nurturing, thought-provoking contacts. Over time, they build on themselves. Alone, we could not have much chance of major impact, but knowing we are one piece of a network of interconnected pieces and our students/clients have the task of seeking out more like pieces to add to their growth helps us know (and hopefully remind our students) that their growth is their own responsibility. We are here to guide and help, but cannot do the bulk of the work. Thanks for doing your part, both with your children and with your clients and with your students. Each part matters greatly. Happy New Year!
